I really should make this a series...Tim driving pet peeves or something...I was out this morning getting a biscuit and it was so early that I needed to drive one exit on I-85 to get to a place that was open. (Thanks Hardees!)
As I got ON the interstate going there, and got back on heading home, the car in front of me went up the ramp doing less than 30 mph.
I've made this argument before, but one more time: drivers entering an Interstate should be traveling at the Interstate speed when the hit the top of the ramp. Not 20mph. Not 30mph. 65 or so.
From the official Alabama Driver's Manual:

From the official Alabama Driver's Manual:
ENTERING THE FREEWAY
Entrance ramps are provided for entering freeways. These are short, one-
way ramps that permit safe and easy entry. The entrance ramp will take you
to a special acceleration lane. As you approach and enter the acceleration lane,
increase speed to match that of vehicles in the through lanes, if possible. Watch
for an opening, activate your turn signal, and merge smoothly with the other
traffic. Drivers on the freeway should allow room for those entering, but you
must yield to them if they do not. DO NOT come to a full stop in the acceleration lane unless absolutely necessary
Class dismissed.
Class dismissed.
Maybe that other driver was driving a Yugo with a lawn mower engine.
ReplyDeleteYou mean those can't go 55mph? And the same for the older guy on the powered
ReplyDeletechair?
