About 6:20 each morning on Alabama News Network, Jamie, Marcy and I spend a few minutes talking about some of the stories of the day...and this morning the impending decision by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was one of the topics.
With a prescription, we allow people with severe illness just about any medicine available...yet for some reason, the use of a plant that grows wild freaks us out. We seemed to agree this morning that when it comes to the sick children, give 'em what they need.
American opinion about marijuana has changed radically in recent years, and some people believe it is inevitable that it will be legalized. Reuters has a story about Uruguay already doing just that, and suggests it is a path the U.S. might follow.
Meanwhile Christie, his eye firmly on the 2016 presidential race, tiptoed around the issue before deciding this afternoon to agree to make some changes to the state laws on medical marijuana today.
But it took something of a public shaming by the father of a very sick little girl to push him into it.
