Archives and History

Visitors to this website know I have a longstanding interest in history, especially Alabama history. It was therefore a pleasure for me today to be elected to the board of directors of the group "Friends of The Alabama Archives".
It's a three year appointment that is unpaid (please don't tell them, but I would have paid for the honor.)
During today's meeting, the board was given a tour of the under-construction Alabama Voices museum, which educates visitors about the time between early years of the land that would become known as Alabama, and now.

Archives Director Steve Murray, center left, leads the tour of the under-construction museum.

The museum will be a tremendous facility for residents and non-Alabamians to learn about how we got where we are...and it's a rocky path, between the Indian wars and The Civil Rights Movement.

The Capitol as seen from the Archives.
It is located inside the wonderful Archives building in Downtown Montgomery, across from the Capitol Building and is due to open on February 15th.

And by the way, The Archives were the first such state facility in the U.S. when they were founded.

  1. I hope that the videos in the archives are fully open-captioned, and that the whole facility follows the principles of Universal Design.

    Congratulations on your appointment, Tim!
