Owner Selling old Rose Supper Club Building

As reported by Alabama News Network early this week, the place where three people were shot to death over the holidays---and where more had been shot in previous years---is being sold by the owner.
Richard "Squirrel" Thomas has owned the building that housed The Rose Supper Club for decades and spoke exclusively with us about his distress. "I'm hurting too!" he proclaimed. Watch the interview online here

It's not part of the online story, but Thomas has a colorful past. He was a longtime math teacher in Montgomery schools, and wrote a book about being wrongfully prosecuted by the Feds on drug charges.

  1. I feel sorry for Mr. Thomas. He, apparently, had a rather classy supper club with The Rose to have been able to book Millie Jackson, The Manhattans, & Bobby Blue Bland, to name a few. I've had the pleasure to meet all three of these groups/singers & they wouldn't have played dives. No one knows what or where or when a horrible situation can occur. It happened to me but my club with just one of three the killers had chosen to target. That was over 30 years ago but the pain is still in my heart. It's not the building's fault. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
