Sunday Focus: Smoke Gets in My Eyes

The U.S. Forest service is setting intentional fires in Alabama's four National Forests, and the smoke is reaching into the Atlanta area.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports there have been complaints and questions in the city about the source of the smoke..and the answer is: blame Alabama.
The Forest Service burns off dead vegetation in more than 100,00 acres of the forests in the Winter and Spring to reduce the chances of catastrophic forest fires, and they list the burns in a "know before you go" guide for visitors.
Unlike California, where wildfires have destroyed numerous homes and thousands of acres of woodland, Alabama is not in a drought, making the "proscribed burns" safe.
