Media Extra: The Changing Meaning of Photography

A Washington Post column got me thinking about the nature of taking someone's photo in a public place, and what the scenario can mean to a person watching.

Read the column  for sure, but the gist is a white guy taking photos of his adopted Asian daughters and a Homeland Security employee asking the girls if "they are all right".

What the guy thought is that some perve was taking pictures of young girls for some Internet sex site. Really.

It reminded me of the New York photog who selects people on the street and poses them together, as if they are longtime friends. I wonder what he thinks of the Washington Post story, and whether he has ever had anyone do the same to him.
I suppose art, and perversity, are in the eyes of the beholder.
