Sunday Focus: Alabama Immigrants & Pope Francis

     AlJazeera America scored with a story about a group of 53 immigrants, many of them undocumented, who traveled from Alabama to Philadelphia to see the pope. They came from various places in the state. One is a 53 year old native of Mexico who works in a chicken plant in Alabama. The Aljazeera report says he

...hopes that, somehow, Francis’ words will make a difference. “Maybe the pope can help us get the papers — talk to the government or president so all the people can get their papers,” he said.


     The immigrant bus trip was arranged by the  Mobile Catholic Diocese. 

    The pope spoke about immigration during his speech to a joint session of Congress:

"Building a nation calls us to recognize that we must constantly relate to others, rejecting a mindset of hostility,"
