In Alabama, You Could Pay the Utility $9,000 for Having Solar on Your Roof
What it’s like in one of the country’s worst solar markets.
See a blog's* take on solar energy in Alabama HERE.
By the way, Alapowco is dipping its toe into solar. They installed a solar power system at Ft. Rucker and at The Anniston Army Depot. You can read a public relations "report" about it on the company's PR website called "Alabama News Center".
As I have pointed out before, you have to look closely for the low resolution notice that it is a power company site. But it is. So you will not find any information about how much money changed hands for the project. Or how much money the U.S. Army saves (or not) via the project.
The "article" does include this information:
* Greentech Media produces that website. They describe themselves as "the leading information services provider for this next-generation electricity system." It is hard to know if they have a dog in the fight financially. But I would take the info with a grain of salt...the same way you should take posts here on www.timlennox.com

"Both projects, owned by Alabama Power, will generate electricity that will flow back into Alabama Power’s grid as part of the company’s generation portfolio. Alabama Power retains the rights to the energy and the renewable energy credits (RECs) from the project to serve its customers with renewable energy. The company can also sell the energy and the RECs, together or separately, to third parties for the benefit of customers."
