The Automotive News website reports the automaker is getting ready to launch a pickup, and it may be similar to a Santa Cruz concept vehicle they discussed almost five years ago.
Hyundai's only U.S. plant is in Montgomery, and the website
points out "Hyundai produces the Elantra and Sonata sedans and the Santa Fe crossover (in that) factory, which has the capacity to make about 400,000 vehicles a year."
Hyundai would have to make the vehicle in the U.S. in order to avoid the 25% Trump Tariffs. If they were going to build a new U.S. factory for the trucks, it would be a year or two before it could produce vehicles, even if they announced it today.
