CBS reports tons of coal ash is being transported from a Puerto Rican Coal-Fired power plant to a dumpsite in the U.S. Deep South...but not in Alabama this time:
All of this is reminiscent of the hundreds of tons of coal ash from a huge spill in Tennessee that was shipped by train in 2009 to the largest commercial landfill East of the Mississippi, the Arrowhead landfill in Perry County, Alabama.
Last Summer the Perry County Commission discussed banning any added coal ash:
"CBS News tracked one cargo ship, the Mississippi Enterprise, as it was hauling coal ash into Jacksonville, Florida. From there, the ash is taken to Chesser Island landfill in Folkston, Georgia, as reported by local Puerto Rican journalist Abner Dennis and Omar Alfonso."

Last Summer the Perry County Commission discussed banning any added coal ash:
"County Commissioner Ben Eaton proposed a resolution to ban coal ash from being dumped at Arrowhead Landfill in Uniontown. It failed with a 3- 2 vote by commissioners. Dozens of people attended the meeting. They say coal ash poses health risks. County Commissioner Albert Turner says otherwise – that coal ash does not pose a health risk."
