RIP Joseph Lowery

The Alabama-born Lowery played a critical part in the formation of the Civil Rights movement, including the founding of the SCLC and the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955.
Lowery died of natural causes overnight.  He was 98.

  1. I remember how moving it was back in 2008 when Rev. Lowery gave the benediction at Barack Obama's first inauguration. He began the prayer quoting the hymn, "Lift Every Voice," by James Weldon Johnson: "God of our weary years,
    God of our silent tears..."
