The department store chain filed for bankruptcy today, after telling the majority of its "associates"...i,e, workers...they were being furloughed a few weeks ago.
The Hill and other publications are reporting the top brass are being well-compensated on the way out:
Jill Soltau, chief executive officer (CEO) of the company received $4.5 million. Separate payments of $1 million were also awarded to Bill Wafford, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Michelle Wlazlo, executive vice president and chief merchant, and Brynn L. Evanson, who is also an executive vice president at the company as well as chief human resources officer. There is a J.C. Penny in Montgomery---at Eastdale Mall.
No word on whether it will be one of the 200 stores expected to close.
