The ongoing battle over confederate statues and buildings named for confederate figures is continuing, with Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall going after North Alabama's Madison County for removing a confederate soldier statue from outside a courthouse and putting it in a cemetery where confederates are buried.
Marshall is calling on the County to pay the one-time $25,000 fine for violations of the law.

Marshall is also investigating the renaming of campus buildings at Troy University, Alabama State University and others, to see if they too should pay the fine. Eventually the Montgomery School Board will face the same scrutiny, if they go through with plans to rename three schools named for Confederate figures, including Robert E. Lee High School.
