everything in this column is suspect
The FTC is addressing one of my pet peeves...but I don't think they're going far enough. According to a news release in MediaPostNews, the agency will block medical ads from carrying disclaimers that, in essence, negate the promises in the ad. Example: "Results and not typical" flashed on the screen for a nanosecond in tiny tiny print after an ad pitching a weight loss pill that allowed the woman in the ad to lose 100-pounds.
Now if they'll just to the same fo ALL ads....including car dealers, who are fond of flashing lengthy unreadable disclaimers at the bottom of the screen during the last two seconds of a commercial.
everything in this column is suspect
(P.S. Is it true that the number of pet peeves someone has is usually the same as their age?)
Hats off to Bill Thomas for tweeting this article!
